Leo Dillon (March 2, 33 – May 26, 2012), and Diane Dillon (nee Sorber, born March 13, 1933), were American illustrators of children’s books and adult paperback books and magazine covers. Leo’s obituary described the work of the husband and wife team as “a seamless amalgamation of both their hands”. They created more than 100 speculative fiction books and magazine covers over more than 50 years. They did almost all of their work together in this field.
The Caldecott Medal was won by the Dillons in 1976 and 1977, which were the only consecutive awards of this honor. In 1978, they were runners up for the Hans Christian Andersen Award to children’s illustrators. They were again nominated by the United States in 1996.

Rather, it is a potentiality that can be evoked by shifting the way we listen to women’s voices, and the way we see ourselves, our mothers and our grandmothers.” Naomi Ruth Lowinsky | Artwork by Leo and Diane dillonQueen Nandi. Her son was Shaka Zulu. She taught him everything he knows. “The thought occurred to me that I should explore the story of Queen Nandi, mother of the Great King Shaka. Nandi (the sweet one) was the daughter of an Inkosi of eLangeni – Bhebhe, also known as Mdingi of the Mhlongo clan. She was born around 1760, with 1766 being most quoted as her year of birth. The aspect I wished to refer to, a side often not told, is that she was one of the greatest single parents who ever lived. It was also noteworthy for the diversity of the people it portrayed. This was especially striking in the 1970s, when the Dillons began illustrating for children: until then, the smiling faces portrayed in picture books had been overwhelmingly white.Leo and Diane Dillon ILLUSTRATION | The Sorcerer’s Apprenticenever forgotten illustrations by leo and diane dillon.Leo and Diane DillonThe Art of Leo and Diane Dillon: Nancy White CarlstromThe Art of Leo and Diane DillondillonGirl Who Spun Gold by Virginia Hamilton, illustrated by Leo & Diane Dillon I love this illustration in the book! The Art of Leo and Diane Dillon: From “Behind the Back of the Mountain”, by Verna Aardema and Leo & Diane Dillon. The People Could Fly :: The Art of Leo and Diane DillonThe Art of Leo and Diane Dillon: April 2010 nomadic Bedouin desert camel drums hoop earrings turbantranslucent sea green robe with opaque cream white lines where butterfly veins or creases would be THE PROCELAIN CAT – UNDINE – LEO AND DIANE DILLONThe Art of Leo and Diane Dillon: Verna AardemaThe Art of Leo and Diane Dillon:Leo and Diane Dillon – Synthajoy 1968 – ACE H86 Synthajoy by R.A.
